Setting routines or automation is half the reason for the introduction of hubs and smart assistants. Every major hub, from SmartThings to Alexa, lets you create routines where you use triggers to make something else happen. Triggers can be the time of day, a sensor being activated, someone asking Alexa a specific question, or a smart home device doing something. The resulting action can be Alexa announcing something or sending an SMS or activating a smart device. The possibilities are almost endless, and Amazon has compiled a robust list of triggers and actions you can perform through the Alexa app. As someone who previously generally stuck with Google Home and SmartThings, I was impressed by the breadth of options and simplicity that setting up routines on Alexa allows.
How to find Fax Lists routines on Alexa The Alexa app has a series of buttons at the top; one of those buttons (you'll have to scroll a bit) is Modes. Select that button. The screen will refresh with three tabs at the top: Your Settings, Gallery, and Activity. Under your routines you will see all your existing routines (if this is your first time, there will be none). Under Activity, you'll see all instances where the routine was started within the last 30 days. The middle tab, Gallery, gives you plenty of options to inspire your routines and give you starting points. From the list of suggested categories, you can select Morning and see a long list of possible routines that can be useful - Alexa can wish you good morning or tell you the weather when you go off the alarm. Each of these can be customized, but is a great place to go for inspiration.
There are additional options, such as typical routines and noise detection routines that include automation, which are all ready. If you choose one of these pre-made routines, clicking on it will open the routine so you can edit it to your heart's content. You can change the name, trigger, actions or even add more actions and then save it. Next time, it will appear under your routines. Create a routine from scratch If you want to start from scratch, from any table, click the round white button with the + sign in the upper right corner of the screen. Alexa will ask you to name the routine and then there are two panels: When and Alexa Will. "When" is to help you set up triggers and Alexa Will to set up the resulting actions.
